TV Tuesday #28 – 5 Minute Date Night Chocolate Dessert (GrF) & An Insane Giveaway!

Do you and your partner make time for regular date nights?

Joshua and I have started doing date night every week. It changes depending on the schedule, but we’ve committed to doing it once a week.

We used to go out. You know, typical date night out. But there’s a problem. We love good food. We like to make good food together and eating out is kind of a hassle. It’s nice to eat at home because I know the quality of food we’re using. I also know where I bought it from, how it was grown and it’s always delicious.

Bonus: I never have to worry about bad service. Just saying.

It’s also a lot less expensive and it allows us to do fun romantic things that wouldn’t be possible at a restaurant. Like carpet picnics, or making a tent out of blankets in the living room and eating by candlelight. It’s not to say we don’t eat out, we do, but we also know how to have some fun at home.

We also find that making a meal together invites a certain amount of intimacy. It allows us to talk and catch up on the day. Taste each others dishes (that sounds naughty) and make recommendations. It allows us to grow as a couple a little every week.

This 5 Minute Chocolate Yumminess Dessert is  the dessert we made for our last date night.

It also happens to go with our giveaway for a massive amount of Coconut Oil! Tropical Traditions has given us the chance to give one lucky winner a gallon of Gold Label Coconut Oil.  Yes that’s right! A gallon. It retails for $120.00. Geez, I wish I could enter.

If you’ve been with Beyond The Peel a while, you know how much I love Tropical Traditions Gold Label Coconut Oil. Here’s a review we did during the summer.

Along with that, we’re rounding up sweet treats to help you eat more coconut oil (see this post for more details). We’ll be announcing the winner along with a post that has a ton of delicious treats using coconut oil collected from the Whole Food Community. You can enter the contest below.

If you’re a whole food blogger that would like to promote one of your coconut oil sweet treats, see this post for details and how to share.

But before that, lets get to the CHOCOLATE!

What do you and your partner like to do on date night? What was you most memorable date night?

If you have any fun ideas, I’d love to hear them! There are 52 weeks in a year and we plan to be married a long time so we’re going to need ideas!

Chocolate Yumminess Date Night Dessert

Watch the video for instructions on how to whip this baby up in 5 minutes. Refrigerate until set (appx 2 hours or speed it up by throwing it in the freezer).

I found this date idea on Pinterest and haven’t done it but will be doing it in a few weeks: Go to a bookstore (maybe grab a coffee to sip during the date). In the cookbook section, you each have to find a recipe that you would like to make for your partner. In the humor section, you have to find a good joke for the other person. Take a quiz together in the magazine section. Find a children’s book from your childhood and read it to each other. In the travel section, find a picture of a place you would like to visit together some day. In the poem section, find a poem that expresses how you feel about your partner. I think it sounds like a blast! And, it can be free!

What a fun idea. I love it. We live in a small town so they are not open in the evenings, but we could totally have an afternoon date and come home to make dinner! That would work. Thanks for the great idea.

This should be a Valentine’s Day post! But how sweet that it’s a regular date night. :) Our date nights are usually out, because I still can’t get the Husband to understand that I LOVE time in the kitchen. He’d rather I sit and enjoy time with him. So we go out and sit face to face. No recipe journal, no cameras. Just us. I love that the two of you can enjoy the cooking process together though!

5 minutes to chocolate bliss?! I think this post must have been written for moi ;-0). I have to give this one a try… it sounds far to delicious (and easy) to pass up! Lovely photo too. Lots of natural light hitting the shot and the berries look scrumptious.

  12. Kate October 21, 2012 at 4:34 am #

I signed up for the giveaway. I started using coconut oil – but not the Tropical Traditions – several months ago when I took my family on the beginning of the wild ride into eating whole foods! Date Night – I was just reading about this online – go to the park for a stroll and for each person that you see, give them a superhero name and make up special powers that they possess. It has to be good for some laughter together! Restaurants are my least favorite date places – because I get distracted by all the other people and noise and don’t end up connecting with my husband on the level that I would like. AND – it is so hard to eat really well at restaurants!
Another date night idea – pick out a list of old (romantic or otherwise) songs that you used to listen to – play them in the living room and dance together while the children sleep!

    • France Morissette October 21, 2012 at 8:52 pm #

Ohh Kate! 2 really lovely ideas. The first one is definitely up my husbands alley. Actually they both are and they should be lots of fun.

  13. Kathy Fields October 21, 2012 at 11:06 pm #

  14. Amber H October 22, 2012 at 4:32 am #

What a great giveaway! I also love this coconut oil. And this dessert is so smart. I love it. I know my chocoholic husband would too.

So…date night. I wish I had more time to go out with Scott, but it’s hard with kids and grandparents all out of town, so we try to make special time for each other each night. Often it’s watching our favorite comedies together on the computer, or making a cup of tea and talking about our days (Scott processing work and me processing my day with the kids). Anyway, it’s fun to get creative and find ways to connect amid the craziness of life.

    • France Morissette October 22, 2012 at 7:28 pm #

Throwing kids in the mixture makes it so much more complicated, yet as a result, probably that much more necessary. It’s so nice to hear you two take time for each other everyday. We could all strive for that.

  15. Teresa H October 22, 2012 at 10:15 pm #

  25. Marjori February 10, 2014 at 2:15 pm #

I know this is an old article, but I’d like to know if you can taste the coffee? Hubby HATES coffee & won’t even drink the water at places like Dutch Bros, etc, because he can taste the coffee in it. Weirdo. lol

    • beyondthepeel February 10, 2014 at 7:47 pm #

That’s funny. I completely understand. If he hates coffee, than just omit it.I don’t always make it with coffee. Use a tsp of good quality vanilla for added flavor and complexity.

  26. Susy February 14, 2014 at 8:13 pm #
